Qumicro

Microwave generation and detection equipment is nowadays included in almost every piece of electronics. Microwave spectral analyzers suitable for novel generation of 5G and future 6G networks are currently rack-based and very expensive, making necessary the development of low-cost, broadband analysis systems.

Part of the European Innovation Council (EIC) Pathfinder Open call 2021, Qumicro is a three-year project (2022-2025) aiming at developing a quantum microwave sensing device presenting a large bandwidth, a good spectral resolution and a large sensitivity amplitude. This sensor will be based on a 2D array of photoelectrically readout solid-state NV diamond qubits. QuMicro will go beyond demonstrating principles, towards exploring and developing applications which will be market-ready. Although the device developed in this project will operate as a microwave sensor, with simple modifications it can be used as an ultra-sensitive matrix sensor for magnetic field detection or gradiometry.
