What?

'Scientific joint mobility projects with Japan' is a scientific exchange program of the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) in cooperation with the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). This program supports two-year joint research projects and covers travel expenses, accommodation, and living expenses, with special attention to junior researchers. 

  • FWO offers researchers from Flanders a daily living allowance of €66,00 and pays the travel expenses towards/from Japan (to be booked through Omnia Travel)
  • JSPS pays the researchers from Japan a total amount of a maximum of 2,500,000 JPY per year (for the travel expenses and the stay within Flanders). 
Start of project: 1st of April 2025.

Who?

The PI holds a Ph.D. and has, throughout the project, an appointment of at least 50% at UHasselt.
In each cooperation project on the Flemish side, at least one junior scientist, Ph.D., or postdoctoral researcher with no more than 12 years of postdoctoral experience should perform an exchange towards Japan.

Application?

Proposals must be submitted simultaneously to FWO and JSPS, according to the modalities of each agency. The FWO application template can be found on the FWO website.
