EUP AH&W - 1st co-funded call for proposals

Research

Funding organisation:

Fonds voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek - Vlaanderen

What?

The European Partnership on Animal Health and Welfare (EUPAHW) has opened the 1st co-funded call for proposals on the subject: ”Supporting the Future of Animal Health and Welfare”.

This first transnational call aims to enhance animal health and welfare by supporting innovative research to develop novel and improved technologies and addressing fundamental and socioeconomic science questions related to the prevention, detection, assessment, and management of animal health and welfare issues of both terrestrial and aquatic animals.
The more specific objectives/topics of this call are the following:
  • Topic 1: Novel Technologies for Prevention, Detection, Assessment, and Management of Animal Health and Welfare;
  • Topic 2: Fundamental Research for Animal Health and Welfare;
  • Topic 3: Animal Health and Welfare and Society.
Funding will come via FWO through the fundamental (FO) or Strategic Basic Research (SBO) channel. The type and scope of the proposed research project will determine the choice of funding channel for the research performed within Flanders (e.g. more fundamental in nature, or more aimed at economical/societal valorisation). Non-compliance with the specific requirements per funding channel might lead to non-eligibility.

For the fundamental funding channel the respective regulations apply. For the SBO channel the SBO regulations have to be taken into account: these imply projects with a primarily economic and/or societal finality, forwhich ‘valorisation’ is a key - and mandatory - aspect.

The FWO can support 2 projects for a 36 months duration, with an available maximum applicable budget of 350.000 EUR (overhead included) per project/consortium.

Who?

Universities and other higher education institutions, public research institutions, nonprofit organisations, consumers/citizens and civil society representatives and private companies can apply, subject to the national/regional regulations and eligibility criteria can apply.

If PI/Coordinator: The PI is only allowed to coordinate 1 Project (organisation can be Coordinating more than 1 with different PIs, please refer to CA for difference PI and Coordinator).

Eligible Consortia (Coordinator counts as Partner):
- Minimum 3 Partners from 3 different countries, requesting funding (full partners) from a Funding organisation taking part in the call.
- Maximum 8 (full) Partners requesting funding.
- Associated partners (not requesting funding) are allowed and do not count toward the Minimum or Maximum. An associated partner can only be a partner in a proposal, not coordinator of a proposal.
- Total funding of partners in one country must not exceed 60% of the total funding budget of the proposal.

Application?

The FWO requires pre-registration on a national/regional level as well by filling in an application form on the FWO e-portal before the deadline for submission of the pre-proposals (08 July, 2024 (15:00, CET)). When you're logged on to the e-portal, you can find it under "Researcher".
It is strongly recommended to contact the FWO administration about your pre-registration at the latest one week before submission in order to verify admissibility.

For the fundamental funding channel the respective regulation applies. For the SBO channel the SBO regulation has to be taken into account: these imply projects with a primarily economic and/or societal finality, of which ‘valorisation’ is a key - and mandatory - aspect.

Project proposals also have to be submitted by European and international consortia through the ‘EUP AH&W’ call secretariat, by making use of the designated pre-proposal template and submission platform, which you can both find here.

Deadline pre-proposal with the FWO and EUP AH&W: 08 July, 2024 (15:00, CET)

Given the pre-proposal already has to be OK in terms of budget, OBI has an internal deadline to check your proposal.
Internal deadline: 24 June 2024

In case the consortium includes more than one partner requesting funding from FWO, a single online form should be submitted containing all relevant information from the different Flemish partners.

around mid November 2024: communication of the results and invitation for full proposal
